Buy British Day

Friday, October 3rd, 2014

Friday the 3rd of October sees the very first ‘Buy British Day’.

You can follow the #buybritishday hashtag on social media to find out more about the campaign and connect with british businesses you may want to buy from!

Buy British Day

As regular blog readers will know, Chiggs is very proud that Chiggs Wheels are all printed and handfinished in the UK. Our printers are a lovely Lancashire based family business, and our envelopes, cellophane wrappers and even the sticky pads we use to hand-embellish our cards with are all made in Yorkshire.

So ‘Buy British’ today! The full range of Chiggs Wheels- Baby Feed Wheels, Baby Medicine Wheel and Get Well Wheels- are available from the shop on the Chiggs website, and our cards can also be bought from our stockists -have a browse on the stockist page to find a Wheel near you!

If you’re a retailer who would like to join the British revolution, Chiggs Wheels are all available to trade at wholesale prices, or we can send you a trade price and terms by email if you fill in the trade enquiry form.

Busy, Busy!

Monday, August 18th, 2014

August has been very busy here at Chiggs- maybe all our stockists are getting their orders in to prepare for those September babies- (there is usually a baby boom 9 months after Christmas/New Year!).

We have sent more Chiggs Baby Wheels out to Angel Wholesale, the one stop shop for nappy cake, baby shower and baby basket supplies. If you head to section ‘nappy cakes’ and then ‘embellishments’ you can find each of the Baby Feed Wheels and the Baby Medicine Wheel. All Chiggs Baby Wheels are available in single quantities from Angel Wholesale, with savings to be made buying them in larger quantities.

Baby Feed Wheels have winged (wheeled?) their way to Maternal Instincts online maternity and breastfeeding boutique, Baby BoBo nappy cakes in Louth, Lincolnshire, and a variety of eBay shops, Mini AcornsClick and Buy gifts and Smartieprints.

It’s always a pleasure to visit one of our local stockists, Magpie Greetings here in Harrogate, and we dropped of a reorder of Baby Feed Wheels and Get Well Wheels this afternoon (and bought a lovely card while we were there- I never leave empty handed!)

Babies Babies baby shower specialists are another business who have restocked with Baby Feed Wheels this month. All our stockists sell Baby Feed Wheels, but not all sell the full range, so if there is a Chiggs Wheel you can’t find at your favourite independent retailer or online retailer, have a browse through the Chiggs shop

If you run a business and would also like to sell Chiggs Wheels, do have a look at our Trade and Wholesale page, and either fill in the trade enquiry form or send us an email for more information. We would be delighted to hear from you!

‘Bye China, buy British.

Monday, February 4th, 2013

Chiggs Wheels Made in BritainThe Sunday Times business pages yesterday had an interesting article in their ‘small business’ section concerning companies bringing some or all of their manufacturing back to the UK. An increase in wages and raw materials in China has led to a spiralling of costs, narrowing the gap in production costs between the Far East and Britain. Companies like Trunki (who make the little ride-on children’s suitcases you may have seen on Dragons’ Den) are moving production to the UK, and discovering benefits other than financial- much shorter lead times, no language problems, easier to keep on top of quality control, and of course job creation.

I’ve mentioned before on this blog, because it’s something I am very proud of, Chiggs Wheels are all printed and handfinished in the UK. Our printers are a terrific family business based in Lancashire. The envelope each Chiggs Wheel is supplied with, and the cellophane wrappers they are sealed in, are made by a fellow Yorkshire business in Shipley (which, coincidently, is where my husband was born!). Even the sticky pads the embellishments are attached with are from a very nice company in Bradford.

If you’re a retailer who would like to join the British revolution, Chiggs Wheels are all available to trade at wholesale prices, or we can send you a trade price and terms by email if you fill in the trade enquiry form. Chiggs Wheels are also available from the Chiggs Shop.

Aaachooo!

It’s that time of year again- you’ve got flu, you’re a bit feverish, yet  have to take your flu remedy tablets every 4 hours. It’s a nightmare to remember what time you took them and when you can safely dose yourself up with the next lot!

This is where the Get Well Wheel is a godsend:-

Take tablets (lots of water!)

Set the numbers on the dial to show the time your flu medicine was taken

Pop your Get Well Wheel on the mantelpiece or bedside table.

Easy!

Each card is supplied with an envelope, so you can write a little get well soon message on the back and post it as a card or pressie to someone who’s feeling under the weather.

There are 3 embellishments to choose from, a red hot water bottle, pretty pink hottie-bottle or orange flower with green leaf design. Available for just £4.20 (free delivery!) from the Chiggs shop. It’s brilliant to add to a get well soon hamper and as with all Chiggs Wheels available at wholesale prices. Fill in our trade enquiry form for a trade price and information.

May the Wheels be with you.

Twin celebration!

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Hot on the heels of our fabulous recent reviews, Chiggs has also received a mention in Nursery Online. The article shouts all about our ‘Twin Celebration’- our wonderful Silver Bizziebaby award, and our 5th birthday!

Nursery Online is, (as the name suggests!) an online nursery trade magazine that regularly pings it’s way into the inboxes of over 4,000 nursery industry professionals, so we are delighted to be featured.

Here is the article and, below, a link to Nursery Online for anyone who would like to catch up on all the latest baby-trade news!

Twin celebration for Chiggs!

Chiggs Ltd, inventors and wholesale suppliers of the Baby Feed Wheel are having a double celebration – their 5th birthday and a Silver Award from Bizzie Baby.

The Bizzie Baby testers are real mums who use and review baby products and they clearly loved the Baby Feed Wheel saying:

“Excellent product for you, or for a gift, and I would be lost without it”

“I think this is a great idea, especially for new mums. We used this day and night and found it to be a ‘must have’.”

Elizabeth Geldart, the inventor of the Baby Feed Wheel says: “We are thrilled to have received a Silver Bizzie Baby Award. It’s a huge endorsement for the Baby Feed Wheel that these mums, having tested our product, have recommended it in such glowing terms. Their comments also highlighted the superb quality and extremely good value for money. This is a wonderful way for Chiggs to celebrate five years of trading.”

Chiggs supply to retailers worldwide and their low minimum order and free carriage offers give all retailers the opportunity to stock this innovative nursery product. For more information visit Chiggs www.chiggs.co.uk

Keeping costs down? VAT chance of that!

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

My New Year’s resolution is to blog about Chiggs more, and first up is.. the recent VAT rise. I know, I know, it’s not the most thrilling of topics 🙂 but it’s something that had led to me poring over more pages of figures than at any time since my time at Uni when I studied Economics!

Chiggs trades under the VAT threshold, so we are not VAT registered- this means we can’t claim VAT back, but we do of course have to pay the tax on everything we buy in the business. So, as you can imagine, an increase in costs of 2.5% has led to fair bit of number crunching- the Chiggs calculator is often seen with smoke coming out of it.

Chiggs Wheels are printed in the UK, and we use UK companies for other components such as the envelopes we supply with the cards and the cellophane wrappers they are sealed in, the postage boxes and padded envelopes we post orders in, even the sticky pads the embellishments are stuck on with ( from a very nice company just down the road  in Bradford).  This is something we’re very proud of, hoping that in it’s own little way Chiggs is supporting other UK businesses. However, a downside to our patriotism is that we have been hit by a whack with VAT!

Despite my moaning (memo to self, make another New Year’s resolution not to moan so much) we’re absorbing the increased costs, and are keeping the price of Chiggs Wheels on the website shop at £3.99 (free P&P). Likewise, our wholesale price for businesses placing trade orders is also remaining the same.

Fair’s Fair.

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

It’s a shame the Harrogate Nursery Fair that was scheduled for the 19th and 20th of October ’10 has been cancelled. The Baby Show for Trade due to be held at London’s Olympia earlier in the month is a little far for us- mind you, with the Harrogate International Conference Centre just one mile away from Chiggs Towers, we are rather spoilt to have access to trade shows right on our doorstep!

Chiggs has visited a fair few trade shows over the years, and we’ve enjoyed exhibiting at some of them, too.  We exhibited at the  Harrogate Nursery Fair just after starting up in March 2006, where the Baby Feed Wheel (at the time our only product!) received an excellent response. We were thrilled to be chosen by trade mag Childrenswear Buyer Magazine as one of their ‘picks of the show’.

Display of Chiggs Wheels at trade fair

Having only just started Chiggs, we were very new to the baby goods business way back then, but we met some lovely people, and found the nursery industry to be very friendly-  fellow exhibitors offered helpful advice, and we received wholesale orders from many new retail outlets who are still ordering  Chiggs Wheels from us nearly 5 years later.

More recently, last year we exhibited Chiggs Wheels at two rather different trade fairs, the first being Card and Wrap (which was part of the Christmas and Gift fair) held in Harrogate in January. We had a stand in the lovely conservatory room in the famous Harrogate hotel The Old Swan. It really was a super place to spend 3 days (not least because our stand was next to the complementary tea, coffee and biscuits- result!)

This trade fair was aimed at greeting card and gift retailers, and we had brilliant feedback about the Baby Feed Wheel as an original, out-of-the-ordinary ‘new baby’ congratulations card, and the Get Well Wheel was very popular as a get well soon card that was not only very different from the usual, but useful, too. Because all Chiggs Wheels are supplied with an envelope and sealed in a cellophane wrapper, they are perfect products for greeting card retailers, and we gained many new stockists from all over the UK at that show.

A couple of months later, in March ’09 it was ‘back to babies’, and we exhibited again at the Harrogate Nursery Fair. Our daughter, Holly, was involved as always, coming down after school to help give out leaflets- a job she absolutely loves, so much so that she’s constantly asking when our next trade exhibition will be! I’m assuming this is because she loves helping with her Mummy’s business, and not because she knows that lots of stands hand out sweets, mints and other goodies!

Keep the customer satisfied

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

We’ve been selling Chiggs Wheels since 2005, so have plenty of  knowledge of how challenging it can be to get visitors to your website or into your shop! I’m sure that those of you running a shop, be it online or ‘bricks and mortar’ will agree that it makes sense, then, to give those visitors the ‘complete’ customer experience- make them happy and (heck, why not) increase the amount they spend with you.

For example, if a retailer sells presents for a new baby, or new mum gifts, the customers buying these will certainly want to send a card to the new parents, too.

And this is where we at Chiggs can help (bet you knew that was coming, didn’t you?!) Whether a nursery shop, baby boutique, lifestyle store or a party planner, adding the Baby Feed Wheel to your range works a treat. This Chiggs product is a stand-alone, useful parenting product that new parents buy for themselves to help keep track of baby’s feeds- even buying it before the baby is born to add to their hospital bag. As the Baby Feed Wheel also has “to” and “from” printed on the reverse, and is supplied with an envelope so it can be sent as a new baby congratulations card, it can also be offered as an add-on sale to a customer buying a new baby gift. It saves them the effort of finding another shop or website to buy a card- a retailer can both maximise sales, and increase their customer’s shopping experience by saving that customer time and money. Everyone’s happy :-)!!

If you are a retailer who would like to add Chiggs Wheels to your product range, we’ll be delighted to send you our trade price and terms- please get in touch via the trade enquiry form on the Chiggs website.

(PS apologies to both Simon and Garfunkel for plagiarising their song title for the title of this post!)
