#shopsbs is launched, and Chiggs’s cards will float your boat.

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016

It was a few years ago now, but some of you may remember when Chiggs was retweeted on twitter by Theo Paphitis (of Dragon’s Den fame) when he chose us as a winner of his Small Business Sunday (‪#‎SBS‬) initiative.

#SBS

#SBS

It was a huge honour, and last year I attended one of the yearly SBS events with some other Harrogate based business owners. The exciting announcement at this year’s event was the development of an SBS shop, and now it has been launched! It is to showcase the products of the businesses who have won #SBS and Chiggs is delighted to be included.

If you are looking for a ‘New Baby’ card that the new parents will be delighted to receive, or for a Get Well Soon card with a useful twist, Chiggs Baby Feed Wheels and Get Well Wheels are here on the SBS shop.

Have a look around, there are some lovely items!

New parents will be ‘appier with a Baby Feed Wheel

Baby Feed WheelsThe Android and iPhone markets are awash with parenting apps to help new mums and dads track their baby’s feed times. The proliferation of these parenting applications leaves little doubt about the need for a feeding reminder in the homes of new babies, and the reassurance for parents of knowing the last time their little one had a feed.
The electronic world has recently discovered what we at Chiggs have known since 2005; that monitoring baby’s feed times helps to ease the stress of a new baby, be it the life changing experience of a firstborn, or the juggling of an existing family around the 24hr demands of a new addition.
As every parent knows, a baby’s feeds occur around the clock so having an accurate reminder of the previous feed helps parents decide whether another feed is due – especially when their new son or daughter is crying in the middle of the night.

So why, in this age of using the mobile phone for everything from barcode reader to video recorder, is the battery-free Baby Feed Wheel a better option?

Send it with love.  Baby Feed Wheel reverse

A Baby Feed Wheel can be given as a gift for new parents and can also be posted as a new baby card complete with a greeting on the reverse – it’s much more pleasant to give and receive! Each Baby Feed Wheel is supplied with an envelope, is printed with “to…” and “from…” on the reverse, and can be posted for just the cost of a normal stamp- ‘large letter’ stamp is not required!

Colour co-ordinated

With a choice of traditional colours, friends and family can give a blue, pink or lemon present to celebrate the new arrival.

Smartphones tell the time, but in their homes people glance at the clock on the mantelpiece –which is the perfect place to put a Baby Feed Wheel!

How clean is your phone?

Mobile phones are handled in-between attending to babies needs, but a Baby Feed Wheel will only be used at the  time of baby’s feed – keep those nasty handset germs away from the little one.

Home & Gift Harrogate

Thursday, June 19th, 2014

July is on it’s way, and that means the Home and Gift 2014 trade show will be hitting Chiggs’s home town of Harrogate.

Home & Gift is a huge event, it takes up all the Halls in the Harrogate International Conference Centre, the Cairn Hotel (with marquees in the grounds) and the Majestic hotel with a number of enormous marquees covering their gardens, too. It covers so much of the town centre, that there is a free shuttle bus running around all the venues.

Organised by Clarion Events, Home & Gift Harrogate features hundreds of exhibitors (over 1,000!) who produce, wholesale or import a variety of products:- design-led and everyday gifts, homewares, jewellery & fashion accessories and greetings & stationery.

Retailers (both with bricks and mortar shops, and those who operate on line web based stores) attend the show looking to buy new lines for their shops, or visit current suppliers to renew old acquaintances and see if there are new products on offer.

Chiggs is not exhibiting at the event, although we are very happy to meet any retailers attending the show to demonstrate our new baby cards, parenting products and Get Well Soon cards over a coffee (or even a Pimms in  the Pimms tent!). Wholesale and trade information is available on the Chiggs website, and there is a trade enquiry form to request the trade price, or any other information.

Although Home & Gift is a serious buying event in any retailer’s calendar, there are various social events during the show, too- there is no escaping from football, as the World Cup Final will be shown on Sunday the 13th of July, after the very civilised sounding ‘Sunday Sun-downer’  event at 6pm the same evening.

Monday the 14th of July sees a pub quiz held at the Cairn Hotel, and the last evening during the show is marked with a  party night at the Revolution Bar.

The show preview popped through the Chiggs postbox a few days ago, and we were delighted to see that local Chiggs stockist Pots 2 Go get a mention in the Harrogate feature- ‘Shopping in the Montpellier Quarter’

Monday 14 July 09:00 – 18:00

Festive wishes

Friday, December 28th, 2012

Here at Chiggs we hope all our customers, stockists and suppliers have had a very Merry Christmas.  We have had a lovely family Christmas, and have also been celebrating the Christmas Day birthday of the youngest member of Chiggs, our daughter Holly who is now 10 years old- double figures!

The Chiggs online shop is still open for customers wishing to buy a Baby Feed Wheel to send as a ‘new baby’ congratulations card to any families who have welcomed their own Christmas babies over the festive period!

The (nursery) fair is coming to town!

Activity at the Conference Centre

As I whizzed through town yesterday, I noticed lots of activity at the Harrogate Conference Centre, preparing for the  nursery industry’s favourite trade fair, which starts very soon on Sunday the 27th of March, and continues until Tuesday the 29th.

We have exhibited our Chiggs  Baby Feed Wheels and  Baby Medicine Wheels  twice previously at the  Harrogate Nursery Fair, and both fairs have been fantastic. It is always a pleasure to get out of Chiggs Towers and meet other businesses involved in the Nursery Industry, but the best part has been meeting the people running the businesses that sell Chiggs Wheels, and gaining new stockists.

Much of our wholesale business is done over the internet, Chiggs can process trade enquiries, orders and payments from companies without having to meet, so having an exhibition stand at a trade fair such as the Harrogate Nursery Fair gave us an opportunity to meet, sometimes for the first time, people from companies that we had been doing business with for years!

Trade shows are also a great chance for us to introduce Chiggs Wheels to shops and etailers looking to stock innovative parenting products, and those looking to offer their customers something different:- new-baby must haves, products to add to a breastfeeding or bottlefeeding range or new baby congratulations cards that are actually useful for the new parents. Of course, the Baby Feed Wheel and the Baby Medicine Wheels tick all those boxes (and more 🙂 ) and we have found many new stockists through the trade fairs we have exhibited at.

While we are not exhibiting at the Nursery Fair this year (we’re hoping to do a greeting card/ gift fair later in the year, so that we can showcase our full range of Chiggs Wheels, including the ‘Get Well Wheel’ get well soon card), I’m looking forward to visiting- I will report back!

Fair’s Fair.

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

It’s a shame the Harrogate Nursery Fair that was scheduled for the 19th and 20th of October ’10 has been cancelled. The Baby Show for Trade due to be held at London’s Olympia earlier in the month is a little far for us- mind you, with the Harrogate International Conference Centre just one mile away from Chiggs Towers, we are rather spoilt to have access to trade shows right on our doorstep!

Chiggs has visited a fair few trade shows over the years, and we’ve enjoyed exhibiting at some of them, too.  We exhibited at the  Harrogate Nursery Fair just after starting up in March 2006, where the Baby Feed Wheel (at the time our only product!) received an excellent response. We were thrilled to be chosen by trade mag Childrenswear Buyer Magazine as one of their ‘picks of the show’.

Display of Chiggs Wheels at trade fair

Having only just started Chiggs, we were very new to the baby goods business way back then, but we met some lovely people, and found the nursery industry to be very friendly-  fellow exhibitors offered helpful advice, and we received wholesale orders from many new retail outlets who are still ordering  Chiggs Wheels from us nearly 5 years later.

More recently, last year we exhibited Chiggs Wheels at two rather different trade fairs, the first being Card and Wrap (which was part of the Christmas and Gift fair) held in Harrogate in January. We had a stand in the lovely conservatory room in the famous Harrogate hotel The Old Swan. It really was a super place to spend 3 days (not least because our stand was next to the complementary tea, coffee and biscuits- result!)

This trade fair was aimed at greeting card and gift retailers, and we had brilliant feedback about the Baby Feed Wheel as an original, out-of-the-ordinary ‘new baby’ congratulations card, and the Get Well Wheel was very popular as a get well soon card that was not only very different from the usual, but useful, too. Because all Chiggs Wheels are supplied with an envelope and sealed in a cellophane wrapper, they are perfect products for greeting card retailers, and we gained many new stockists from all over the UK at that show.

A couple of months later, in March ’09 it was ‘back to babies’, and we exhibited again at the Harrogate Nursery Fair. Our daughter, Holly, was involved as always, coming down after school to help give out leaflets- a job she absolutely loves, so much so that she’s constantly asking when our next trade exhibition will be! I’m assuming this is because she loves helping with her Mummy’s business, and not because she knows that lots of stands hand out sweets, mints and other goodies!

The bullet was bitten!

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

December 2005- research and design was complete and the Patent was approved, so I took a deep breath, bit the bullet and commissioned the first print run of 1,500 Baby Feed Wheels– 500 each of pink, blue  and lemon from a printer over the Pennines in Lancashire, and a Harrogate based designer to develop the Chiggs website.

Just a few days before Christmas [*Chiggs fact* Christmas day is also Chiglet (AKA our daughter, Holly’s) birthday] the boxes and boxes of Baby Feed Wheels, packets of pram embellishments and endless envelopes arrived at Chiggs Towers (AKA the spare bedroom).

printing on the reverse of the Baby Feed WheelOnce the New Year arrived, I had a major resolution to fulfil- sell Baby Wheels! In the design process I’d added “To…..” and “From…..” on the reverse of the cards, and decided to present them with an envelope so that they could be sent as really useful ‘New baby’ congratulation cards (or gifts- just like I’d given to my friend). So, another deep breath, and I made appointments to visit a couple of local greeting card shops- and received a fantastic response! Both shop owners loved the cards, and placed wholesale orders there and then. Chiggs was on it’s way!
