New Year 2018, and marking 12 years in business!

Monday, January 15th, 2018

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Year period.

In the lead-up to Christmas, Chiggs passed a milestone, as I celebrated 12 years in business!
The 15th of December 2005 was the day I took delivery of my very first print run of Baby Feed Wheels… just 1,500 at the time, 500 each of blue, pink and lemon (or ‘yellow’ as they were known then) 🙂

The High Street has changed dramatically since those days, my cards were very quickly stocked in a number of card shops and baby goods shops, and I’ve supplied an enormous number of different retailers over the last 12 years. The vast majority of these independent shops, however, are no longer in business.

It’s tough out there for small businesses like mine! Over the last few months, as I’ve fulfilled orders from my remaining stockists, and my stocks of the latest print run of Baby Feed Wheels have reduced, I’ve been considering the future of Chiggs.

I feel I’ve come too far to give up on my small business now! Yes, times are tough, but I’ve made a few changes, tried to reduce overheads as much as possible, and in October I took delivery of another print run of Baby Feed Wheels from our lovely, fellow family-run printing firm in Lancashire. Here’s to the next 12 years in business!

Happy New Year… here’s to a joyful 2016!

Happy New Year to you all!

There was a celebration in December as the 15th was the 10th Birthday for Chiggs, marking the day 10 years ago that I took delivery of the very first print run of Baby Feed Wheels. I can scarcely believe I have been running my business for 10 years, and I’m very much looking forward to the next 10!

Rewind to 10 years ago this January, and I was approaching local shops to see if they wanted to sell the Baby Feed Wheels. I had a great reaction to the cards, and was also offered some very useful advice… of course, I was completely new to business, so any help was very very welcome! On the advice of a local card shop I put the cards in cellophane wrappers… I’d been so involved with the design of the Wheels, it was something I hadn’t thought of!

The very first shop I approached was Magpie Greetings, which at the time was based in the Westminster Arcade in Harrogate. They bought a stock of Baby Feed Wheels to sell in their shop, and I’m delighted to say that 10 years down the line, many re-orders (and a premises move to Beulah Street) Magpie are still selling Chiggs Wheels! They now also sell the Get Well Wheels in their ‘get well soon’ card section.

Here is a #ThrowbackThursday photo of me and Chiglet at our exhibition stand at the Harrogate Card and Wrap Trade Fair, taken in January 2009. I must point out that my little helper is now 13 and as tall as me!

Busy, Busy!

Monday, August 18th, 2014

August has been very busy here at Chiggs- maybe all our stockists are getting their orders in to prepare for those September babies- (there is usually a baby boom 9 months after Christmas/New Year!).

We have sent more Chiggs Baby Wheels out to Angel Wholesale, the one stop shop for nappy cake, baby shower and baby basket supplies. If you head to section ‘nappy cakes’ and then ‘embellishments’ you can find each of the Baby Feed Wheels and the Baby Medicine Wheel. All Chiggs Baby Wheels are available in single quantities from Angel Wholesale, with savings to be made buying them in larger quantities.

Baby Feed Wheels have winged (wheeled?) their way to Maternal Instincts online maternity and breastfeeding boutique, Baby BoBo nappy cakes in Louth, Lincolnshire, and a variety of eBay shops, Mini AcornsClick and Buy gifts and Smartieprints.

It’s always a pleasure to visit one of our local stockists, Magpie Greetings here in Harrogate, and we dropped of a reorder of Baby Feed Wheels and Get Well Wheels this afternoon (and bought a lovely card while we were there- I never leave empty handed!)

Babies Babies baby shower specialists are another business who have restocked with Baby Feed Wheels this month. All our stockists sell Baby Feed Wheels, but not all sell the full range, so if there is a Chiggs Wheel you can’t find at your favourite independent retailer or online retailer, have a browse through the Chiggs shop

If you run a business and would also like to sell Chiggs Wheels, do have a look at our Trade and Wholesale page, and either fill in the trade enquiry form or send us an email for more information. We would be delighted to hear from you!

New Year, new business?

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014

Here at Chiggs we’ve been around for a while now (some may say it shows!) and we find that the New Year leads to an increase in the number of enquiries we receive about our products.

Baby feeding product

The majority of our business is supplying our baby feeding products, medicine timers and greeting cards to a variety of retailers- we have some information about our trade and wholesale terms on the (you guessed it!) ‘Trade and Wholesale‘ page on the Chiggs website. All but the trade price is detailed there, and interested parties are invited to fill in the trade enquiry form to send us a message. We will, in turn, reply with not only the trade price, but a lovely email with pictures and everything.

Many people must make a  New Year Resolution to start their own business, or even just to find new products for a business they are already running, as we always see a spike in trade requests in January. And with this in mind, we are delighted to announce that we have a grand total of not one, not two, but three new stockists this month!

Medicine Timers

In the last few days we have sent out orders to Oh Nappy Days (what a great name!) who make some incredible crib and even motorcycle shaped nappy cakes;  Clickandbuygifts, a onestop online gift shop, and Little Tiddlywinks ltd whose fabulous tiered nappy cakes are works of art. We are delighted that these lovely businesses have chosen to add Chiggs Wheels to their product ranges!

News leak- the bottom line for Huggies nappies

Tuesday, December 4th, 2012

In October it was reported in the business pages that Huggies nappies manufacturer Kimberly-Clark were planning to stop making and selling nappies in Europe. The company has sent out emails today to Mums who are members of the Huggies Club to say that  from spring 2013, Huggies nappies will no longer be available to buy in the UK. So if Huggies are your favourite nappies for your little one’s bottoms, you’ll either have to stockpile in the next couple of months, or try some different makes to find a new favourite!

If you’re after a bit of help, Mumsnet has a review section where mums have rated their favourite (or least favourite!) nappies. While you’re on the website, have a look at the great reviews for the Baby Feeding Wheel in the ‘presents for new parents’ section!
