Presents for a new mum

Monday, February 1st, 2016

I’ve put together a few ideas of presents to take round when you visit a new mum with a new-born baby. Baby often gets all the presents (who can resist gorgeous little baby outfits?!) especially if there has been a baby shower before the birth, so these are some ideas especially with Mum in mind.

  • An insulated coffee/tea mug with a lid, to keep hot drinks hot and avoid spillages! Drinking lukewarm coffee and doing everything one-handed is par for the course in the first few weeks of parenthood!
  • Baby Feed Wheel so the new parents can keep a note of baby’s feed times… pencils and scraps of paper are easily mislaid!
  • Food…check dietary requirements (I’m lactose intolerant so couldn’t eat the box of the chocolates my husband’s colleague brought round. Not normally a problem but in my post partum state it seemed like the end of the world that my husband was eating ‘my’ chocolates, even though I couldn’t!). If you’re taking meals around, make sure they’re easy to reheat and there is room in the freezer for them.
  • Nibbles like biscuits, chocolates, muffins and crisps to dip into while feeding, esp if breastfeeding, these can also be handy to give to other guests!
  • Magazines or a kindle voucher.
  • Hand cream (lots and lots of washing hands in those first few weeks can play havoc with your hands!)
  • Anything off the ‘banned’ pregnancy food list (pate, strong cheeses, smoked salmon)
  • If she’s a good friend, a basket of practical presents like dry shampoo, lasinoh cream, breast pads, maternity pads and a baby medicine wheel. If you can make the basket a ‘useful’ one, then so much the better.. maybe with a handle so it can be used to keep the everyday baby bits and bobs in, to move from room to room.
Keep track of baby's medicine times, set the 'clock' dial to show when baby is given calpol etc.

  • Thank you cards and stamps.
  • A cosy cardigan or bed jacket type item for the night feeds.
  • Really nice cordial or soft drink. I love ‘Ame’ because it’s not too sweet, but it’s so difficult to find in the shops!

And while you’re on your way, don’t forget to ask the new parents if they would like you to pick up anything from the shops for them on your way round!

Celebrity Mum of the Year

Friday, March 13th, 2015

TV celebrity Billie Faiers has been announced as the icelolly.com Celebrity Mum of the Year 2015, voted for by the British public.

Billie, star of reality TV show The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE), is Mum to Nelly,  born last July. You may remember that Billie was lucky enough to receive an amazing Nappy Cake featuring a Baby Feed Wheel from Pure Nappy Cakes at her baby shower last year.

Speaking of her win, Billie said: “I feel really honoured to have been voted icelolly.com Celebrity Mum of the Year 2015 and I’d like to thank all my fans and fellow mums out there for supporting me.

“It’s been a really busy past couple of years, with TOWIE, my other projects, and of course the birth of my beautiful daughter Nelly last summer. It’s very much been a juggling act, with me trying to find the right balance between my career and family life, something I know all the real mums out there face and deserve huge credit for too – but I wouldn’t change anything for the world!”

New parents will be ‘appier with a Baby Feed Wheel

Friday, January 16th, 2015

Baby Feed WheelsThe Android and iPhone markets are awash with parenting apps to help new mums and dads track their baby’s feed times. The proliferation of these parenting applications leaves little doubt about the need for a feeding reminder in the homes of new babies, and the reassurance for parents of knowing the last time their little one had a feed.
The electronic world has recently discovered what we at Chiggs have known since 2005; that monitoring baby’s feed times helps to ease the stress of a new baby, be it the life changing experience of a firstborn, or the juggling of an existing family around the 24hr demands of a new addition.
As every parent knows, a baby’s feeds occur around the clock so having an accurate reminder of the previous feed helps parents decide whether another feed is due – especially when their new son or daughter is crying in the middle of the night.

So why, in this age of using the mobile phone for everything from barcode reader to video recorder, is the battery-free Baby Feed Wheel a better option?

Send it with love.  Baby Feed Wheel reverse

A Baby Feed Wheel can be given as a gift for new parents and can also be posted as a new baby card complete with a greeting on the reverse – it’s much more pleasant to give and receive! Each Baby Feed Wheel is supplied with an envelope, is printed with “to…” and “from…” on the reverse, and can be posted for just the cost of a normal stamp- ‘large letter’ stamp is not required!

Colour co-ordinated

With a choice of traditional colours, friends and family can give a blue, pink or lemon present to celebrate the new arrival.

Smartphones tell the time, but in their homes people glance at the clock on the mantelpiece –which is the perfect place to put a Baby Feed Wheel!

How clean is your phone?

Mobile phones are handled in-between attending to babies needs, but a Baby Feed Wheel will only be used at the  time of baby’s feed – keep those nasty handset germs away from the little one.

It’s the perfect gift for a baby shower, and the lemon Wheel is ideal before the “reveal”.

All power to the Baby Feed Wheel!

Busy, Busy!

Monday, August 18th, 2014

August has been very busy here at Chiggs- maybe all our stockists are getting their orders in to prepare for those September babies- (there is usually a baby boom 9 months after Christmas/New Year!).

We have sent more Chiggs Baby Wheels out to Angel Wholesale, the one stop shop for nappy cake, baby shower and baby basket supplies. If you head to section ‘nappy cakes’ and then ‘embellishments’ you can find each of the Baby Feed Wheels and the Baby Medicine Wheel. All Chiggs Baby Wheels are available in single quantities from Angel Wholesale, with savings to be made buying them in larger quantities.

Baby Feed Wheels have winged (wheeled?) their way to Maternal Instincts online maternity and breastfeeding boutique, Baby BoBo nappy cakes in Louth, Lincolnshire, and a variety of eBay shops, Mini AcornsClick and Buy gifts and Smartieprints.

It’s always a pleasure to visit one of our local stockists, Magpie Greetings here in Harrogate, and we dropped of a reorder of Baby Feed Wheels and Get Well Wheels this afternoon (and bought a lovely card while we were there- I never leave empty handed!)

Babies Babies baby shower specialists are another business who have restocked with Baby Feed Wheels this month. All our stockists sell Baby Feed Wheels, but not all sell the full range, so if there is a Chiggs Wheel you can’t find at your favourite independent retailer or online retailer, have a browse through the Chiggs shop

If you run a business and would also like to sell Chiggs Wheels, do have a look at our Trade and Wholesale page, and either fill in the trade enquiry form or send us an email for more information. We would be delighted to hear from you!

Towie baby shower nappy cake includes a Baby Feed Wheel. Reem!

Sunday, March 30th, 2014

The cast of The Only Way Is Essex (known as Towie) are known for their love of a party, so what better excuse than a baby on the way? In the episode shown on ITV2 this evening (Sunday) Sam Faiers threw a glamorous baby shower for her expectant sister, Billie.

The real star of the show was the spectacular 5 tier nappy cake presented to the Mum-to-be, who was absolutely delighted with her gift.

The stunning pink party centrepiece was made by Chiggs stockist Pure Nappy Cakes and includes a host of baby essentials that the new Mum will find invaluable, including a pink Baby Feed Wheel!

Billie and her fiancée Greg have already thrown a ‘gender reveal’ party when they cut a cake to reveal the pink coloured sponge indicating they were expecting a baby girl.

If you’re ‘well jel’ of Billie, fear not, head over to the Pure Nappy Cakes website where you can purchase this and a whole range of gorgeous Nappy Cakes featuring Baby Feed Wheels.

Greeting Chiggs stockists.

Thursday, March 6th, 2014

We have had a real variety of wholesale orders so far this year; re-orders from our regular retailers and we also have some brand new stockists of Chiggs Wheels.

The ‘Stockists’ page on the Chiggs website has been updated. This page  lists our retailers, ‘bricks and mortar’ shops county by county, and also has  ‘jump’ links to our international stockists, and to the online retailers who also sell Chiggs Wheels.  This is an incredibly diverse range of companies, including businesses offering baby gifts, greeting cards, children’s clothing, new baby hampers, nappy cakes and baby shower goodies. Phew!

New retailers to join the Chiggs family since our last stockist update in January include Smartieprints who specialise in personalised gifts, Lemon House Gifts, based in Preston, and Baby Cakes to Celebrate have added Baby Feed Wheels and Baby Medicine Wheels to their range.

A new shop recently opened up in Darlington, County Durham, Love Style Home, are selling Baby Feed Wheel ‘new baby’ congratulations cards and also the Get Well Wheel ‘get well soon’ cards.

We’ve also made deliveries to fellow Yorkshire businesses recently, Pots 2 Go ceramic cafe here in Harrogate (pictured above), Appleby Cards and Gifts in Otley, and Magpie Greetings (also in Harrogate, and incidentally our very first stockist way back in 2006!) have all reordered Chiggs Wheels for the delectation of their customers.

If you would like to sell Chiggs Wheels through your business, have a look at our Trade and Wholesale page, and either fill in the trade enquiry form or send us an email for more information. We’d love to hear from you!

Baby showers (and plastic babies).

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Baby showers seem to be regarded as an American import but I think maybe it’s just the name rather than the concept that’s new- the idea of ladies getting together before an imminent arrival has been around for years.

When I was pregnant nearly a decade ago now (eep!) a friend organised a baby shower for me- it was just a get-together with a group of friends for a glass of wine (orange juice for me!) to have a bit of a chat, time to contemplate the changes that lay ahead, and I was lucky enough to receive some presents- posh toiletries for my hospital bag, and a lovely snuggly snow suit (December baby!) are a couple I remember.

When my friend herself was expecting a few years later, we had upped our game, and I pointed the organiser in the direction of Chiggs stockist Shower my Baby; so we had themed games, snacks, balloons, napkins and even little advice cards to fill in, passing on our ‘pearls of wisdom’ to the mum-to-be. For my part, the day before the ‘do’  I’d read about a game where little plastic baby-shaped favours are frozen in ice cubes, placed in everyone’s drinks, and the first person whose baby floats free shouts ‘my waters have broken’.

‘Fun fun fun’ I thought, but as I’d left it too late to buy the plastic babies, and with necessity being the mother of invention, I nabbed some of my daughter’s jelly babies to use. Reader, it was not a good idea. The sugar on the jelly babies turned our Chardonnay into a dessert wine, and the babies themselves formed a mussy sludge at the bottom of our glasses. We still drank the wine though. But learn from my error, and buy plastic babies!

As most people need little enough excuse for a party, unsuprisingly the baby shower industry continues to grow. The Baby Feed Wheel is a perfect pressie to give to an expectant Mum at her baby shower, and we have baby shower stockists selling Chiggs Wheels, with others adding Baby Feed Wheels to nappy cakes and baby hampers;- brilliant baby shower gifts.
